The PLANT Foundation was formed in 2013 with the primary purpose of financially supporting Farm Academy Live, an online interactive virtual program transmitted directly into the traditional classroom setting. Since its inception, tens of thousands of students have benefited from the program, gaining a better understanding of where their food and fiber comes from.
However, there is still a lot more work to be done. The foundation recognizes that although our world may be more connected than ever, as a world community we are losing sight of a basic need - how to feed and nourish ourselves. A solid understanding of where food, fiber, and resources come from is the first step in addressing this problem. Agriculture education has never been more important, and the PLANT Foundation is doing its part in keeping the conversation alive.
Over the past three years, it has become increasing apparent today’s youth obtain information in numerous ways. Whether through Youtube channels, online apps, internet searches, or social media outlets, younger generations access what they want, when they want. They want to be informed and entertained. Although a daunting task, these formats provide a direct pathway to informative, scientific, and factual information about the agriculture and food industries. The PLANT Foundation is exploring ways to tap into these mediums by expanding Farm Academy programs. The only limits at this point is our imaginations.
